Google Places gets more exposure

Google Place page exampleGoogle has been focusing some energy on raising the profile of Google places recently.

Back in April they changed the name from the Local Business center to Google places.

And now from the 12 July Google has given over more of it’s most valuable Search engines results page space to Google Places, as seen in the example shown here.

Now when you carry out a search the One box will provide a link to the Google Places page within the main results pages.  All the more reason for local businesses to have there own optimised business listing.

Why do we use WordPress?

I’m often asked why I use WordPress for my site, and this is a really easy question to answer!

Firstly, Google loves WordPress!  No I don’t mean that it loves it unconditionally, just that if you set it up correctly it can have everything that Google is looking for.  So if you keep your site up to date by adding good content on a regular basis Google will come back again and again, and find and list your valuable information.

Secondly, WordPress is available to everyone.  By using either WordPress.com or WordPress .org hosted on your own server anyone can have a webpage. So you don’t even need your own computer to have your own web page – now that is truly awesome!

Thirdly, because the software is so popular there are lots of developers constantly striving to create the newest and best add on’s.  That means that when Google or any other search engine enhances the rules for listing, or a new ‘must have’ comes on the market, there will be multiple developers out there in the ether looking to solve the problem. That means there will probably be a solution before you even know you’ve got a problem to solve!

Fourthly there is a huge user community.  That means that there’s always lots of people worldwide who can help you if you come across any issues.  So whether you’re a newbie to WordPress or a seasoned professional there is plenty of support out there for you!

And last, but most certainly not least – especially in today’s market it is probably THE most important –  it is Mobile friendly!  So every site and every page you create can be viewed via a mobile device.  This attribute of using a WordPress blog is not to been taken likely.  This is the future, and any site not embracing this new technology will be left behind.

I hope this small insight into why I use WordPress for my own site and those of my clients has been useful to you.
