Understand your customer

Understanding your customers’ demographics and searching behaviour is the key to dominating your market. To do this you’ll need to walk in their shoes, and understand the language your potential client is using to carry out their searches on the web. Most people searching on the web are doing it in the hope of solving a problem.

So, if your business understands the problem the searcher is trying to solve (and therefore what keywords and phrases they are likely to use) you can offer them a very tailored solution to their problem (in terms of your landing page, website…and ultimately your product).

Know when you’ve been successful

Determine how you will monitor conversions. Often this is very easy…it’s when you make a sale. However it can be a bit more difficult, for instance if you are selling larger ticket items such as a car, you are more likely to be tracking leads. Additionally you will need to assign some kind of monetary value to each lead so you can establish how much you are willing to spend on advertising to get the lead.

Keep in touch with your customers

Use an autoresponder to keep in touch with your clients and potential clients. In essence this is automated email delivery.  Decide on an autoresponder and set them up.

Carry out keyword research

  • Brainstorm to establish the main “key” words and phrases.
  • Find out what words and phrases your competitors are using.
  • Expand your main list

 

Group keywords by their unique conversation type (what is the potential customer looking for?)

For example if you are an estate agent then some of your prospects will be looking to sell a property, whilst another set of prospects will looking to buy a property.  Both of these should be seen as different conversation types.

 

Build separate landing pages on your website for each category of visitor.

You need each of the two different types of potential customer above to go to a distinct page within your site, enabling you to highlight the different value propositions you’re able to offer them…to answer their particular request.

Get your own blog

Create your own blog and use your keyword phrases in your posts to entice the search engines.

 

Set up your Adwords (PPC) campaign with the keywords, groupings and landing pages discussed above.

Monitor you results and test…EVERY DAY

  • Split test Adwords every day
  • Monitor and adjust bids every day
  • Remove non-performing keywords every day

When you find a great “money term” start your search engine optimization process for that  expression by:

  • Submitting 2-3 articles per week
  • Make blog postings on your own blog and others
  • Answer posts on forums and yahoo answers
  • Expand your Pay Per Click advertising campaigns to include Yahoo and Microsoft adcenter using your great “money terms”.

 

Rinse and repeat this process every 90 days!
